From the Introduction
A lab printout lies on the kitchen table beside a pen and a list of questions, the number lower than expected and a prescription already offered. Many of the men in this book said they would think about it. The writers here describe what they tried instead, what they asked first, and the follow-up blood tests that mattered more than they had expected.

About this volume
Inside this volume
Fifty first-person accounts describe men looking for alternatives to standard testosterone replacement, or for ways to keep their own system working alongside it. Some came with tiredness they blamed on shift work, some with a zero on a semen report after a gym friend's tip, some after steroid cycles or a supplement that was not just a supplement, and many while trying for a baby. The writers include an electrician, a paramedic, a chef, a welder on long-term pain medicine, a retired airline pilot whose blood got thick, a dairy farmer, a taxi driver with diabetes, a police officer on nights and a bookshop owner, from Atlanta to Tromsø and from Lagos to Lyon. Treatments include clomiphene, enclomiphene, hCG mixed before the lunch rush, sperm banking, and testosterone kept with a second medicine added. Several asked for fuller tests first and found more to the picture: a forgotten childhood operation, twenty years of rugby knocks, opioids, beer, weight, sleep and stress. Writers describe the price of a small vial, ordering through an app, slow referrals, private clinic sales pitches, and watching PSA and oestradiol. Outcomes are mixed: enclomiphene did nothing for one man after four months, others had mood swings, a sore chest or lost sleep, and one quit testosterone cold and paid for it.
Who it's for
For men weighing a low testosterone result, men already on testosterone who are thinking about fertility, couples trying for a baby, and partners trying to understand what is going on.
